Jaymee Coonjobeeharry enjoys a busy freelance career that includes playing in orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English National Opera, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Chineke! Orchestra. After graduating from Oxford University with a Double First Class Masters in Chemistry, he undertook his musical studies at the Royal College of Music,where he was the Constant and Kit Lambert Junior Fellow in his final year and was subsequently made a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.Alongside his musical career, Jaymee pursues a doctorate in Computational Chemistry at University College London under Professor Graham Worth.
Jaymee enjoys a diverse musical life. He has worked in close collaboration with composers who have written works for him, including a Flute Concerto by Hamish Brown and a Flute Sonata by Guy Newbury. He is regularly invited by orchestras to perform as a concerto soloist on the flute and piccolo, and has performed alongside Swedish Flute virtuoso Göran Marcusson. Jaymee’s musical interests extend to jazz and he was the flute player in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for 3 years. Jaymee’s most recent solo engagements include a performance of Vivaldi’s Flute Concerto La Notte in Kings Place, and a performance of The Flight of Bumblebee with pianist and duo partner Frederic Bager, released by Classic FM on social media,which has received over 500,000 views to date.
Jaymee is sought after as a flute teacher, and teaches both in the UK and abroad. He has taught at the Hong Kong Flute Academy and given seminars at the Aegean Arts Festival in Crete, Greece.
Whilst a student at Oxford University, Jaymee was President of the Oxford University Sinfonietta, and developed a strong interest in chamber music. He is a founding member of the Godiva Trio,which was awarded the Douglas Whittaker Wind Ensemble Prize. Recent performances include Ravel's ‘Introduction and Allegro’ with the Harlem String Quartet and Harpist Ieuan Jones, and appearances at the Davos Festival(Switzerland) as resident artist for two years running. At the Davos Festival 2020, Jaymee was delighted to form a Wind Quintet with Marie Boichard(Principal Bassoon, Orchestre National de France), Amanda Taurina (Second Oboe,Gewandhausorchester), Ivo Dudler (Solo Horn, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover),and Joë Christophe (Clarinet soloist, winner of the ARD International Music Competition).
